On 30 May, EVERY donation to JDRF will be DOUBLED for life-changing type 1 diabetes research!
We're now a year into Rory living with Type 1 Diabetes. Some
days we are blessed to almost forget about it......some days we're not so
lucky.
For the most part, Rory is a total trooper - he has learnt
to deal with the pain of changing the needles embedded into his skin every 3
days. He has almost come to terms with the fact that he can't just join a
sports game in the playground - he needs to check his sugar-levels first. When
we wake him in the middle of the night to force feed him glucose, he usually does
it without complaint. But even though we
don't talk about it, we are all silently grieving the simplicity and
spontaneity of life before diagnosis; where we could leave the house without
making sure we had some form of sugar on our person, where we could book a
holiday without needing to assess the quality of medical care and distance to
the closest hospital, where Rory could have a sleepover without needing to
worry about whether the parents would wake up to his alarms.
Australia is now at a turning point for type 1 diabetes
research. With new treatment options on the horizon, there’s never been a more important time to
support the charities undertaking the research. I am raising money in support
of JDRF, the Australian charity funding this research. Today, any donation made
to JDRF will be doubled, allowing you to make TWICE the impact in advancing
research aimed at finding cures and improving lives until that happens. Please
help us reach our goal so that together we can create a better future for all
those living with T1D.
Great job Rory! You are a winner.
