The JDRF GIVING DAY

Today we are DOUBLING our impact for type 1 diabetes

From today to the 1st of June, EVERY donation to JDRF will be DOUBLED for life-changing T1D research aimed at finding cures and improving lives until that happens!

T1D is a lifelong autoimmune condition where your body stops producing insulin—which is what controls blood sugar levels in our bodies. It means 24/7 monitoring of blood sugar levels and manually injecting insulin into your body multiple times a day. There is currently no cure for this condition, and it affects more than 130,000 Australians alone.

I am raising money for JDRF's Giving Day to make a life-changing difference. Please help us reach our goal so that together we can create a better future for all those living with T1D.

Diagnosed as T1D on Xmas Day

Friday 26th May
How T1D came into our life was a big shock.

Our beautiful son had his world change on Xmas day 2022.  We rushed him to hospital Xmas night as he was vomiting, lethargic, not eating or drinking , very pale, slept most of the day and complaining of chest pain. Thinking covid (because that is the world we live in now) gave him a RAT test to find negative result.  As he was getting worse we made the decision to take to take him to the  local hospital.

Once we arrived and waited what was only 1 hour. Ruling out covid of course they tested his blood to find that his blood glucose was very high at 22 and  keytones too high (never heard of keytones before this day) .  Sending us via ambulance to the amazing team as Westmead children's  hospital, where after many tests he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes T1D  as his pancreas decides to stop working. Looking back I did see some small symptoms of increase drinking but as he is ADHD as well thought it was from that.

Today nearly 6 months later we mitigate a new world of carb counting, insulin calculations , injections, pump discussions, sensors,  food requirements, exercise, keeping hypo packs  for school and home and finally  tracking glucose monitor information for doctors and dealing with alarms  from the sensor going off throughout the day and  night if we haven’t managed it correctly as a fail safe. (Thank goodness)

We are asking for your help!

So this amazing foundation that helps with new research and assists all the doctors, dieticians, educators, nurses that do fantastic job helping our lives.

I am asking you to help them by donating what ever you can in these hard times no matter how small especially as it will be matched by their sponsors  dollar for dollar by 1st June 2023 to help the research on finding a cure to type 1 diabetes.

It means a lot to us that you can help and maybe one day in his future we can change our sons life back to what it was before Xmas 2022

The photo was his last photo 2 weeks before diagnosis.

Thank you so much
